Healthy fat for anxiety and depression are essential in our diet, I cannot stress this enough! If we don’t have enough healthy fats in our diet, we will probably suffer from one, or all of the above conclusions in our lifetime.
Most of Americans are consuming fats in their diet, but they are all the wrong ones, that don’t feed anything but obesity, disease and mental health issues. These fats are hidden in those oh so addicting processed junk foods, French fries, processed meats, chips, chocolate, margarine, pastries, cookies, cakes to name a few.
Healthy fats on the other hand, respond to our bodies where we need it most. It feeds the brain, nervous system, hormones, joints, eyes, and muscles tissues. Our brains are made up of water and fat, and an average 25 year old girl who eats 1700 calories a day should be getting at least 58-80 grams of those calories from healthy fat (varies to individual lifestyle needs.)
The fats that are essential to include in your diet are:
- Coconut Oil (cold pressed, extra virgin)
- Olive Oil (extra virgin)
- MCT Oil
- Avocado oil
- Nut Butters (100 percent natural)
- Coconut Cream (organic)
- Nuts, Seeds
- Bone Broth
- 100 percent Chocolate (the bitter full of fat kind)
- Cacao Butter
- Butter (grass fed)
- Kefir (organic, full fat)
- Cheese (full fat, organic)
- Atlantic Wild Salmon
I also love healthy fat for anxiety and depression for 2 major reasons, healthy oils can be consumed while fasting, and also curb cravings of sugar! If you are craving sugar, it’s because you don’t have enough healthy fats in the diet.
It goes back to my major rule, remove sugar from your diet entirely, and swap it for healthy fats. With the proper ratio of healthy fats, proteins and carbs, sugar cravings will be a few and far between!
Watch your mood improve and your energy skyrocket with the addition of healthy fats into your diet.
